Seaviews in Ryde

Just a few minutes walk from the town, esplanade and the coastline of Appley beach is our spacious four bedroom pet-friendly house with a terraced patio garden and parking.

Our home is arranged over three storeys in a fantastic location just a few minutes walk from the beach and the town centre of Ryde.  With good bus, train and ferry links it's an amazing place - doubly amazing if you don't have a car or if you're a teenager and don't want to rely on on your parents driving you around or just want to wander about taking in the sights and sounds and smells of the sea on foot.

Ground Floor

On the ground floor is a king bedroom overlooking the garden with shower room across a small hallway and a reception room that we lovingly call the library which has Sky TV and there's a generous hallway for bikes, prams, wellies and dog beds/crates.

This floor is ideal for anyone with mobility issues who doesn't want to deal with the stairs, parents wanting some privacy from the kids, or as recently stayed, young parents with a baby who brought a travel cot and set the baby up in the reception room away from the rest of the multigenerational family who slept on the top floor blissfully unaware of the baby's early morning alarm call.  The bedroom has a built in wardrobe, a dressing table and TV.

The "library" has a small selection of books - if you don't finish in time, you're welcome to take a book home but do try to leave one in return if you can.  Leaving a book behind without finishing it is a heinous thing to have to do, so if you're caught short without one to leave, take the book anyway with our blessing and give it away to someone when you're finished with one of our postcards inside in exchange.

We've created a utility area under the stairs in the hall with a washing machine, and fridge (cold drinks for the garden?) with tea and coffee facilites and a heated clothes airer which you are welcome to use.  Our project for 2021 is to enclose this area but for the moment it's out and proud.

First Floor

The living room and kitchen are on the first floor.

The kitchen is well equipped with an induction hob (I swear by them now I've cooked on one, I happily gave up my gas hob) oven, microwave and fridge freezer, toaster, food processor and blender and unusually a sandwich toaster.  I rediscovered sandwich toasters when I realised you could make perfect triangular griddled/fried/poached eggs along with some bacon and mushrooms and tomatoes just the right amount for one.  Add the discovery of small scale brownies in the sandwich toaster and a whole new world opens up to you of mini-baking.  Throw in a coffee machine (Tassimo) with a milk frother that actually gets hot, can be put in the dishwasher and makes enough for several cups and I don't think you'll want for much in your holiday kitchen.

The living room has one wall of the original hummingbird wallpaper which was so bonkers I decided it had to stay.  But only one wall.  If you hate it, we advise that you sit with your back to that particular wall and admire the newly-decorated calm cream wall.  The two upcycled school desks have a variety of games and puzzles and some brochures we've collected.

The 1940s cabinet in the lounge has extra wine and champagne glasses as well as table mats and more games.

Both reception rooms have a Sky box with Sky movies and a selection of recorded films and TV programmes.  Wifi is also included free.

Second Floor

There are three bedrooms on the second floor - one king bed room, one twin bed room (which can on request be made up as a superking although we do provide two single duvets scandinavian style) and a room with a small (four foot) double comfortably big enough for an adult.  The king room has a built in wardrobe and a dressing table, the other two rooms have a combination of wall hooks and chest of drawers for clothes storage.  We also supply a hairdryer and a magnifying mirror which can be found in the wardrobe of the front bedroom.

There is a bathroom on this floor with a bath and walk in shower, toilet and vanity sink, the light up wall cabinet has Bluetooth speaker built-in for you to use if you are more tech savvy than I, additionally there is a separate cloakroom toilet and sink on this floor in case one of your party spends an inordinate amount of time listening to the bluetooth speaker in the bath.

All the windows and doors in the house were recently replaced with sealed double glazed units, making it toasty warm in winter and the large new hot water tank ensures amazing pressure to the showers and an ample supply of hot water for families.

There is off street parking right in front of the house and free on street parking if required. However being so close to town and the beach means you can leave your car behind for the entire stay.

The house is situated only 10 minutes from the hovercraft and foot-ferry terminal, town and beach.  The train to Portsmouth Harbour arrives at the Wightlink foot ferry terminal in Portsmouth so it really couldn't be simpler to get here without your car, and with the train from London taking less than 2 hours, it's an ideal short break getaway.  We love the ferry crossing which adds to the unique character of a holiday in the Isle of Wight.
